Application

Despite a myth about rendering being an easy application process, it’s not. If it is not done by a professional, it may fail or not be as nice as you’d hoped.

Once a wall is prepped, the first stage is to install the insulation. This is fixed to the wall with fixings and adhesive. Once secured onto the wall, a full render system is installed over the insulation. A thin coat render has to be used to prevent the render from being too heavy and pulling the insulation away from the wall.

Beading is installed to give the render a uniform finish before a basecoat is installed. This is usually done in two coats with a reinforcement mesh embedded in-between the two coats. Once left to dry for between a week and two, the wall will be ready to be rendered with a top coat. A thin coat render can be applied between one or two coats usually between 10-15mm.  Thin coat renders are self-coloured so don’t require any decoration or painting.
