Application

Despite a myth about rendering being an easy application process, it’s not. If it is not done by a professional, it may fail or not be as nice as you’d hoped. Most renders have a standard application process; however, some may vary depending on the finish. Roughcast render is very similar to pebbledash but not quite the same. The product we use is the K-Rend Roughcast render.

After an existing render has been removed and/or the wall has been prepped, the first stage is to install beading (to ensure a uniform finish). Once in place, we install a basecoat. This usually installed with two coats with full reinforcement mesh installed in between. The reinforcement mesh gives the render extra strength which prevents it from cracking with movement.

The basecoat is left to dry for between a week and a fortnight before we return to do apply the finishing coat. Depending on what system is chosen, the finishing coat can be applied between one to multiple coats. A ‘roughcast’ is installed over to finish the render which can be painted to match the requirements needed.
